Professional Statement
In his earlier years, Dr. Goldman was known as ‘James the Juggler,’ having performed regularly at nursing homes and founding a volunteer project to use juggling as a recreational therapy for learning disabled children and victims of brain injury. While in high school, he was granted acceptance to an 8- year medical program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He majored in Neuroscience, graduated cum laude, and received numerous academic awards. He was also recognized in the New York Times and by the State Medical Society for his outstanding contributions in community service.
Upon completion of his medical internship with the Unity Health System in Rochester, New York, he received recognition from the department as ‘Intern of the Year.’ He then trained as an ophthalmologist at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and served as chief resident.
Following residency, he was fortunate to be accepted to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, ranked #1 in the nation for ophthalmic training. There he completed an anterior segment fellowship specializing in microsurgery of the lens, cornea, and laser vision correction and published research involving advanced techniques in cataract and corneal surgery.
Dr. Goldman has worked in private practice for four years and was recently recruited to join our team. His practice is open to general ophthalmology, but he specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. He is passionate about helping individuals reduce their need for glasses with lifestyle enhancing lens implants (e.g. ReSTOR®, Toric IOLs), laser vision correction (e.g. LASIK and PRK), and implantable contact lenses (Visian ICL™). He is a respected educator on laser vision correction and hosts free monthly seminars.
